Stippling/Pointillism

Stippling involves covering a certain area with dots. It is a time consuming technique, done with different technical pens and ink in which an image is drawn dot by dot. Stippling art images have no lines. It is a collection of dots, placed to suggest forms, shapes, depth and contrast. It is left to the veiwer’s eyes to complete the picture.

Pointillism is a close relative of stippling, in which an artist uses brushes and different colors of paints and creates an interesting composition out of dots. The dots are fairly small, have distinct color. This technique was developed in 1886 by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac in 1886.
