Horses are one of my most favourite animals and they have been the subject of human art right back to prehistoric times.
Perhaps one of the most famous horse painters was George Stubbs (1724-1806) who studied the anatomy of horses in great detail and so his paintings were more accurate than those of many of his predecessors or contemporaries, although it would take the advent of photography for any artist to be able to depict the correct movement of horses at the gallop.
But, whether stylised or realistic, horses make a wonderful subject in any form of art.
